On this cold winter weekend imagine you can teleport to the Caribbean and surround yourself with the sounds of steel drums, dance to Caribbean music and enjoy some delicious Caribbean food. Though all of us cannot hop on a flight to escape this cold weather, we can attend the One Love: Caribbean and Beyond Carnival this Saturday in Purdue’s CoRec feature gym. It is a free event that will be put on by the Purdue Caribbean Students Association and will feature performances by the BCC Black Voices of Inspiration and the Northern Illinois University Steelband.
This is a great opportunity to engage with students from the Caribbean culture and learn more about their heritage and values. This has been a very successful event in years past that has brought together students, faculty and staff, and community members to share and enjoy Caribbean culture and tradition.
Jada Franklin, a performer with the Black Voices of Inspiration said, she is excited to perform some of Bob Marley’s popular songs as he was a prominent activist and brought life to the struggle through his music.
